Thursday, August 25 Opening Reception The festival kicks off with a public celebration at the Gallery. Filmmakers will be present. Film Installation / Sculpture An elaborate film installation by Christina Battle and Ryan Glen will continue until September 20. Frail: Toward a Future Art An exhibition of digital artwork presented in the screening room will continue at the gallery until September 20. It will also be online at www.frail.ca. 9:00 p.m. Hanover Drive-In A selection of the finest short films produced in Canada and internationally over the past two years, including dramas, documentaries, experimental films and animations. Friday, August 26 Remix! Artists Remake the Media These films explore ‘sampling’ culture—the irreverent scavenging of media images, reworking them to make new cultural objects. They tamper with, remix and finally, re-animate stereotypical media messages. Saturday, August 27 Campaign: The Making of a Candidate A smart, insider look at David Miller’s victorious bid for the Toronto Mayor’s seat. With a sharp eye for detail and a dynamic sense of narrative, filmmaker Andrew Munger presents a timely take on the politics of Canada’s largest city. See How They Run A humorous portrait of American politics played out in San Francisco. The film chronicles an election in which power, race and sexual orientation ended up on the back burner for locals more concerned about the expansion of Starbucks in their backyards. Sunday, August 28 Making Pictures A repeat of the screening in Hanover on August 25. Tuesday, August 30 Street Fight A chronicle of the bare-knuckles fight for Mayor of Newark, N.J. between Cory Booker, a 32-year-old Rhodes Scholar and Sharpe James, the four-term incumbent and undisputed champion of New Jersey politics. 1 The Times of Harvey Milk Harvey Milk was a leader in the fight against Proposition 6, California’s attempt to ban homosexuals from working in schools. This film reveals the wit, humour, anger and charisma that Milk used to eventually defeat the bill. Friday, September 2 Street Fight A repeat of the screening in Clarksburg on August 30. Saturday, September 3 Water and Power An outdoor screening of Pat O’Neill’s avant-garde classic film, preceded by 2 short experimental gems. The projection screen will stretch across the river between the bridge and the Middle Dam! Sunday, September 4 Alien Productions Media artists-in-residence from Austria will perform a special culinary art event.
