Gwendoline Joan Fraser: stitch paint print January 22 - March 13, 2011 The natural environment of the Beaver Valley area, home to Fraser since the late 80ies, has inspired the work presented in this show. Embroidery, painting, watercolour and mono print techniques are being employed in Fraser’s creative exploration of place. Her art work is both representational and abstract and resonates a sense of personal connectedness mixed with subtleties of spontaneity and immediate expression. “I usually work in the medium that helps me to attain the surfaces I desire whether they may be landscapes or microscopic mosses and lichens, rocks and minerals. All of these find their way into my art work. My works are often three dimensional, both for wall and free standing sculpture. Rice paper and hot pressed water color paper is used in my water color prints. The work is done in all sizes depending on what I want to depict. Textured surfaces are usually the aim in all mediums.” Fraser studied at the Ontario College of Art. She continues to learn new techniques and develop styles through experimentation and classes.
