Jennifer Clark: Quadrant
January 25 - March 12, 2006
Quadrant
is a series of paintings and papier-mâché sculptures local
artist Jennifer Clark created over a ten year period. What’s so
striking about this series is the way Clark embodies the frame into the
oil painted canvas. Here the frame is not an accessory, added after the
fact, instead the frame is attached to the surface of the painting, extending
the motifs of the painting, interacting with it. Even the shape of the
frame is fluid with a pictorial quality.
‘
In my work I like to connect opposite elements. I love the energy that
raises when form and image live together as one.’
Jennifer Clark’s formal education includes a degree in ceramics
and photography from the Ontario College of Art, an Honours B.A. in Fine
Art and Psychology from the University of Guelph, two years of Fine Art
Studies at York University in Toronto, and a nine month Ceramic residency
at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Alberta.
