| Andrea Bird & Daniel Beirne: in process March 31 - May 9, 2004 Andrea Bird and Daniel Beirne will both be exhibiting their most current work. Bird’s creation will comprise an ongoing series of 5 inch square encaustic paintings and Beirne will engage in a site specific environmental sculpture both in and outside the Gallery walls. Bird’s
project, a work in progress, is a reflection on the nature
of time—both literal and ephemeral. Establishing the
winter and spring equinox as points of reference for departure
and arrival, she has set herself the daily regimen of creating
an artwork a day on a small, 5-inch square block of wood.
Utilizing encaustic (pigment mixed with melted wax) she
has painted and collaged various artifacts in her daily
musings. These daily works are completed and never reworked
as that day departs, then randomly assembled into larger
formats that comprise 25 or more of these components. This
ploy or discipline allows a daily response to the notion
of time: time, the transcendental tyrant, the bringer of
seasons, the marker of memories, a means of passage to the
intuitive nature. Beirne
will be constructing a sculptural installation as a direct
response to the gallery space and its environs, utilizing
both indoor and outdoor space, a site specific work comprised
of found material. He will scour the immediate area for
a palette that best reflects his environmentally sensitive
approach to the artmaking endeavor. |
